Pisa

Although it is a tourist trap, the leaning Tower of Pisa simply has to be ticked off and it is far more spectacular than you may imagine from the postcards. The famous bell tower is just one marvel in the Campo dei Miracoli,  a collection of religious buildings, including a spectacular Duomo with some famous carvings by the Renaissance Pisani father and son, a glorious baptistry like a massive wedding cake and an impressive Mausoleum where the rich and famous of Pisa were laid to rest. There is a limit on numbers who can climb the tower each day so you need to book, preferably the day before.  Of course there are hordes of tourists milling around but near the tower there are lots of little cafes and a Pizza in Pisa is mandatory.  It is a fun day out for kids and only one hour from Casa Quitino, so best to get there early and back for a siesta!
