Seasons in Tuscany

Fox in December A clear December sky June rose Oleanders in June View from Quintino in July July evening sun on wheatfields Deer in green April Dusty African August poppies in May wheat in June

January: Cold  and not advised! Although better than northern Europe to spend the winter!

February: Even colder, log fires and lots of books, and sometimes snowed in!

March: Getting better but not ideal, unless you want to see the art galleries and the sites.

April: Often wet but fresh and feasible for sight seeing, to avoid the crowds

May: the beginning of the glorious spring: poppies and lush fields, the nightingale sings

June: Roses. fireflies in the valley below, cinghiale, deer and porcupines roam at dawn and dusk

July: Getting hotter, time for ice creams in the piazza,  the Palio in Siena, Jazz in Volterra, Opera in San Gim, Andrea Bocelli concert in his home town of Liatico, Golden Oldies concerts in Lucca... all the fun of summer and lots of crowds.

August: Scorcio!...time for the beach, fields ploughed up and dusty pastel shades,  Medieval festival in Volterra, another palio in Siena, classic Tuscan sietas in the hot afternoons, long balmy evenings with cool wine on the patio. The Italians go to the seaside.

September: just right, the crowds have gone home and the best time to see the sights.

October: Often bright clear skies but a bit frosty at night... start having fires, hunting begins.

November: getter shorter days, time for indoor activity... not as cold as northern Europe and often very mild. More hunting in forest around Quintino.

December: time to gather the olives and invite lots of friends to warm up the house.

What to bring: Peak Season - Summer in Tuscany

Summer:  minimal, skirts rather than trousers, light tops and sandals, ... perhaps a light  jacket in the evening.

Mosquitos are around over the summer but there is mosquito guaze on all the bedroom windows so there are no mosquitoes inside the rooms if the doors are kept closed, but bring repellent and cover up in the evenings or when walking.

All rooms have fansand are cool during the day but there is no air conditioning.

What to bring: Spring and Autumn - in Tuscany

Warm woolen clothes, jacket,  boots.

There is no central heating, just a very effective log fire upstairs and gas heaters in the rooms
